student services Anne's desk
Since the most meaningful place to me on this campus is my desk at work (at the Office of the Dean of Students), I observed and will report on five minutes in the life of this building (between 2:20 and 2:25 on September 22, 2003.) My desk is on the third floor of the Turner Student Service Building, where the temperature is always a little cool and the lights are always a little too fluorescent. I can always hear the music coming from another secretary’s computer, and into three people’s offices and a conference room when the door is open. In these five minutes, the phone rang twice and one student came in wanting verification of enrollment. Three deans left the office, one returned, and four people from the Office of Greek Affairs came back from a meeting. This is a typical afternoon in the fall semester.
